Oh Hey Friday! & February Ipsy Glam Bag

Hey friends!  It's been a good week!  I don't have much to report except that I had a really fun girls night yesterday with my new friends here in San Antonio.  I seriously feel so blessed by these girls, y'all.  They are amazing ladies!

Tomorrow is my sister's bridal shower and I'm excited about it!  I've been buying decor and thinking up games so I think she's going to have a blast.

It's that time again!  I got my Ipsy Glam Bag and I've used most of them so I can tell you what I think.  These are my 5 things this Friday!!!

DON'T LIKE: I wanted to like this eye lash curler so badly.  I'm in need of a new one so I was excited to receive it.  But I'll be honest, it was weird.  Maybe I need to give it another shot but it didn't curl my eyelashes the way I like.

LOVE: This is my absolute favorite item this month!  The more I use lipsticks, the more I like color on my lips.  This lip stain is just the right color and stays on for hours.  I usually use it and then put some lip gloss on after it dries.  I highly recommend it!

DON'T LIKE: Ok, this is probably my least favorite item that I've received from Ipsy.  What is a face oil and why do I need it??  AND...if you know my love of essential oils, surely you'd know that I don't like fake oils.  One of the ingredients in this face oil is parfum (fragrance).  See Caroline's post HERE for why I don't use items with "parfum".

Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray

OKAY: I like the way this stuff smells, but I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference in my hair.

ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder

LOVE: I really like this blush!  It's a great color and stays on my cheeks for a long time.  Good job, Ipsy!

I LOVE the makeup bag this month too!  Isn't it cute?!

Want to start getting your monthly Ipsy bag?  It's so fun to get in the mail each month.  It's kind of like Christmas all year long.  It's just $10 a month which is so worth it to me.  You always get a cute little makeup bag and 5 items.  Use this link if you want to sign up!

Have a great weekend, friends!! XOXOXO

My Happy Places

Before I get started with this post, I want to introduce you to my sweet bloggy friend, Joey!  I know a lot of my readers know her, but some of you don't so you need to check out her blog, Hodgespodges. She's written a book and I can't wait to read it!  It's called Yeah, Maybe and the e-book is available on Amazon for $1.99 this week!  You should download it today!

______________________________________________________________________________

Do you have a happy place?

I currently have three.  I know that sounds like a lot, but seriously, I get giddy in these three places:

Target, HEB (a local grocery store) and Hobby Lobby

I won't go into it but my home with my hubby would top the list.  But let's talk stores today!

The second I walk into Target, I get giddy.  I don't even know where to start - I love the clothes, the home decor, the stationary, the box wine (you know it!), the shoes, the purses, the jewelry, the makeup, I could go on and on.  Here are some of my current favorites:

I have a confession.  My toes are literally busting through my current nude flats so I'm super in need of new ones.

I, obviously, need flats right now!

I can't wait to start wearing all the spring nail polishes!  Target has a great selection - my favorites being Essie and OPI.

I don't have any great photos from HEB, but I love the quality of food, beauty products, natural options, bulk items and ready-to-eat options.  I buy the sushi often, pre-made salads and love going after work to try all of the samples that they're offering. Haha!  And the prices are great for the quality that you get!

Hobby Lobby is my go-to store for decor.  I could spend hours just walking up and down the aisles admiring the decor.  I wish I had more rooms to fill!

I recently put up my gallery wall and I love it!  You may have seen this photo on Instagram a while back.  I got most of the items here from Hobby Lobby.

I need your help.  I think the top left is missing something.  I think it needs something slender and kind of long.  I'm thinking something like this arrow?  What do you think would look good there?

Where are your happy places?  I look forward to hearing about them!

My First "Home Sweet Home"

I was an eager young college grad in 2005 (eek...how was that already 10 years ago?!) with a drive to be successful.  I had a job lined up in public accounting that I was committed to starting in 2006 after I finished graduate school.

So I moved up to Dallas and subleased an apartment for a couple months while I searched for a condo with my realtor.  Yeah...a single, 22-year-old buying her first home with no income yet.  Sounds crazy and honestly, it was.  I had no business buying a condo yet, but this was back when they'd give a loan to anyone - even a graduate student with no income.  Thankfully, I knew that I had a good job lined up that I'd start in a year and would have no problem paying the mortgage.

After searching for a couple of months, I closed on the purchase of a cute 1,221 sq ft condo in North Dallas and loved it!

This was the first home that I could call my own.  It was also the first place after leaving my parents' home that felt like "home" - do you know what I mean?  I felt comforted when I got home, felt like it was my little space of the world that I could be me and just relax.

There were so many good memories that happened in this condo.

I graduated with my masters degree here, got my sweet little Luci dog, had many roommates throughout the years, threw many parties, laughed, cried, cooked, started my first post-college job, dated, went through break-ups, decorated, had visitors and eventually planned my wedding here.

First, I'll show you some of the renovations that we made, then give you a tour at the bottom of this post.

I had carpet for years.  The condo was built in 1982 and they LOVED carpet back then.  It was even in my bathrooms.  Right before I sold it in 2013, Kevin (we were dating at the time) and my parents helped tear up the carpet and we laid laminate (that I think totally looks like hardwood).  We also had tile laid in the bathrooms upstairs and re-carpeted the bedrooms.

Finished product of the living room:

That one time that a plumber caught my condo on fire and the hot firefighters came to put it out...

Now here's a little tour of my condo... (this is right before putting it on the market so the bedrooms are very plain).  I had taken all of my decor down and painted the walls a neutral color.

 This is what the master bedroom looked like before I had to stage it...

 I have so many great memories from living in that condo.  I spent 8 years there.  It'll always hold a special part of my heart.  It's where I became the woman that I am today.

I'm sharing this post as a part of Compass's Starter Stories series.  Compass is a real estate platform that connects people searching for apartments with the neighborhood that fits their personality in NYC and Washington D.C.  I wish Dallas had this type of service when I moved there years ago.  I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this series.

Tell me about your first home - house, apartment, condo, etc.  Other than the place that you were raised, where would you consider to be your "starter" home?  I'd love to hear stories!

Hey-o Friday!!!

Happy Friday friends!  Long story short...my transmission in my car totally died on me last week...boo...BUT the good Lord provided and I'm getting a brand new one for free!  I'm heading 3 hours north to go get it today - yep, that's where it broke down.

While I found myself getting upset about the car dying, I found myself later praising God for the many blessings that day and the days to come.  Maybe that was the perfect place to break down - who knows if another dealership would have fought for me like this one did!

Onto my week...I've got 5 randoms for you today!

{ONE}

Last weekend, we got to celebrate Valentine's Day on a little roadtrip.  Once I made it there (see above...haha), we had a blast.  We did lunch at Texas de Brazil and it was freaking delicious.  I've had it before but for some reason, it was the absolute best this time!

Guarana - so nostalgic to drink one of these - makes me wish I was in Brazil again!

not the best photo but that meat was amazing!!!

Then we toured the Texas Rangers Ballpark.  Kevin has, of course, done this before but I never have!  I've been to a bunch of games but never done a private tour so it was awesome.  And you know anything Rangers related is my hubby's happy place!

sorry...so dark :(

I think I caught that 'almost homerun'

Kevin totally got a video of me pretending to do a press conference but it cut off before I said all the good stuff!  The other people on the tour thought it was pretty funny.

On Valentine's night, we babysat so that Kevin's "adopted aunt" and her hubby could go on a date.  We just love their kids!  Here I am being goofy with our little niece as she wore Kevin hat and I wore her bow. Ha!

{TWO}

Ummm...I think spring is coming!  My favorite flower in the world - the mountain laurel - is starting to bloom here in Texas.  It's seriously the most amazing smell in the world.  I wish I could bottle it up and smell it all the time.

And we bought tulips from the grocery store.  Aren't they pretty?

{THREE}

As you know, I love my essential oils so I needed a great place to keep them both at home and traveling.  I posted this photo on Instagram a while back with my EO travel bag.  It was a makeup bag that I got from Lily and my mom sewed the little inserts so that my oils are nice and protected.  I love it!

I got this box just as a decoration from Home Goods back when we were staging our house to sell and it's turned into the perfect oils storage box!

{FOUR}

So I'm thinking about ordering Juice Plus and I want to know if any of you have experience with it.  I want a vitamin that gives me nutrients from the actual source (fruits and veggies) because so many vitamin brands are full of junk.  Have you tried Juice Plus before?  If so, what did you think?

{FIVE}

This perfect, free printable is hanging in my living room right now.  I just love it!

Have a great weekend, friends!
