Random Friday Catch-up!

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm a SUPER excited about this Friday, because at the end of the day, I'm off for a whole week! Kevin and I will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary in Mexico!  I plan to lay on the beach or by the pool pretty much all week and read.

Since I haven't had a chance to blog much lately, I'll use this random post to catch you up a bit!

Lisa moved to San Antonio!!!  If you don't know Lisa at Lisa Loves John blog, head over there now. Her recipes and DIY projects are the bomb!  We're so excited to have her and her hubby here.  We met up for dinner last week and met for the first time!  Don't ya just love blogger friendships?!

A few weekends ago, we made a trip up to the Dallas area for Kevin's birthday.  We spent some awesome time with his adopted family - man, I wish I was Puerto Rican!  We also met up with some friends the first night (top left). We went to a Texas Rangers game (don't even talk about it - we're still grieving) and the Texas State Fair.

Our goal at the state fair is to eat as many random fried foods as we can.

This year we tried the featured ones - Pretzel Crusted Pollo Queso Balls, Cowboy Corn Crunch (corn, bacon, jalapeno cream cheese), Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly (pictured below), fried Spaghetti and Meatballs and the trusty Fletcher's corn dog.

Last Saturday, I helped host a baby shower for a friend who wanted a Maine-themed shower.  We weren't sure how to do it at first, but ended up coming up with some great ideas!  She loved it!

On the menu: Lobster rolls, Blueberry Cream Mini Tarts, Whoopie Pies, Cheese/Crackers, Veggies/Dip, Pretzels, Jelly Beans.

I was nervous about the lobster rolls, but they turned out to be excellent!

Last Friday was Kevin's work gala.  They raise 75% of their annual funds at this event.  It takes place at the St. Anthony Hotel in downtown San Antonio.  It was gorgeous!  My parents were able to come so I enjoyed spending time with them.  We had a blast!

Theme had to do with wearing something from a previous era - I didn't do it, but my parents did

Monday was our two-year anniversary!  I can't believe that it's been two years - time has flown!  But we've also been through a lot and God has really deepened our relationship in those two years.  I am so grateful for the man that God sent me to do life with.

We celebrated on Sunday, since we had Bible study on Monday, with seeing the movie, War Room, in the theater (so good!) and dinner at J. Prime Steakhouse.  AMAZING!  I got the dry aged fillet and it was possibly the best steak I've ever had.  They also gave us complimentary bananas foster for our anniversary!

sorry the photo is dark

Have a great weekend and week, friends!  I hope to stay away from social media and just unplug for the next week so peace out!

Halloween Costumes of the Past

I'm not typically a "dress-up-for-Halloween" type of gal, but there are some random years that I've come up with some fun costumes.  I never go for the norm, the sexy or the expected.

In light of Halloween coming up in a couple weeks, I thought I'd share my previous costumes with you.  This year, we will have just gotten back from Mexico so I will probably be in bed early due to exhaustion!  No costumes this year!

I'm the cheerleader with a mullet on the left (1989ish?)

Barney Rubble (2000)

some kind of weird colorful reindeer (2001 - freshman year of college)

Marge Simpson (2004 - senior year of college)

Cloudy with a Chance of Showers (I walked around with a watergun and shot people with water) 2006
Yes, this might look like a scene from a horror film - creepy clown in the background

2008 was fun!  My roommate and I had a Halloween party at our condo.  I was the 27 Dresses girl and my pup was my bride.  Every hour, I went upstairs and changed into a different bridesmaid dress from all my friends' weddings....

 Cowgirl (2010)

Smarty Pants (2010 at a different party)

tomato juice and my little skunk :)  get it? (2011)

Carroll's bridesmaid (that's the dress that I wore in my friend on the left's wedding 7 years before - I was swinging a last minute costume) (2014)

What have been some of your favorite costumes from your previous Halloweens?  I'm curious to know you're most creative one!

My hubby is famous!

Ok, not really...

My hubby isn't famous, but he was on TV recently...

I just wanted to drop in quickly to let you know about two things that I'm thankful for.  I'm linking up with Emily for this one!

ONE \\ As I've mentioned here before, my husband took a job last April where he helps kids that are aging out of the foster care system, and I am SO proud of him!  I'm so thankful that the Lord gave me him as a husband.  I always prayed for a husband that desired to further His Kingdom and God answered that prayer!

Recently, a local news station interviewed him and the executive director about the THRU Project.  They were able to get more mentors for the kids through it which is exciting!

You should go watch the video now!  I think he did pretty darn awesome!

TWO \\ I am really graceful and especially good at walking and talking at the same time.  [Insert sarcasm]  I fell about a week ago and rolled my ankle pretty badly.  It swelled up and got a nice black and blue bruise.  I've been a little frustrated that I can't go to the gym or even go to the grocery store, but it's feeling a lot better now!  I'm grateful that I didn't break any bones and am praying that it heals quickly.  I need to get active!

Here is about a week ago:

And here it is now:

sorry if my feet gross you out!

Looks a lot better, right?!  I still have to stay off it for a while so no running for me.

I hope you all have a great week!
