Roadtrip | Moving | Cave Date

Hey friends!  I hope you had a great weekend, whether you were out and about or just home relaxing!

We had a busy one, but a good one.  It's going to be a busy week at work so I'm glad we got to get away for a little bit.

1 \\ We roadtripped it, first, to my hometown on Friday night.  Luci HATES sitting in the back and we got this new bench seat cover for our dogs which prevents her from jumping up front.  She stood on our bag in the back behind Kevin the whole way.  It was super cute.

2 \\ We celebrated my stepdad's birthday at a Mexican food restaurant on Friday evening.  He had to wear that hat while they sang but we got free sopapillas!

3 \\ Next, we drove to San Angelo where we helped Kevin's brother and his wife (our BIL and SIL) move into their new house on Saturday.  We filled up that horse trailer! #howcountryfolkmove

4 \\ We almost lost our nephew's slide.  Not really, but we had to check!

5 \\ On Sunday, we helped our 2 year old nephew put up his Mickey Mouse/Texas Rangers Fathead that we got him for Christmas.  He was having a blast putting the "stickers" up.  What a cutie!

6-9 \\ On our way back home, we stopped at the Caverns of Sonora for a little cave date.  My dad took me and my sisters there MANY times when we were little girls, but it had been about 20 years since I'd been there.  I really wanted to take Kevin so I was glad we had time!  It was super nostalgic for me.  It's about a 2 hour tour and it's beautiful!  I've always been so fascinating by caves.  Imagining how old the formations are blows my mind.  Oh, and I totally want to do the Discovery Challenge....wink, wink, Kevin....birthday gift?

Hope you have a fabulous week!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday, friends!

It's been a busy, busy week at work so I'm glad it's almost the weekend!  I finally found some time to write a post yesterday and then our internet stopped working so I'm just stopping by quickly this morning to say hey instead of the usually Friday 5.

We're celebrating my stepdad's birthday tonight and helping our brother-in-law and sister-in-law move into their new house on Saturday and Sunday.

I found this iPhone wallpaper this week and it couldn't be more perfect.  I need the reminder like every hour AND it's super springy and cute!

Have a fabulous weekend, my friends!  XOXO

Epic Baking Fail & Other Weekend Shenanigans

Oh Monday...why do you have to come so quickly?!

It was a good weekend though it rained the whole time.  I so appreciate the rain though.  I know later in the summer, we'll be wishing that we had more!  Thank you, Jesus, for blessing us with it now!

So I've been working late all this week so I haven't been good at reading blogs, much less posting.  I made it to one 5:45am spin class though - I call that a success!

Friday evening I worked from home and started my new addiction....Downton Abbey.  It seems like everyone has been talking about how great it is and I kept trying to find a way to start from the beginning.  I found out that my coworker has seasons 1-3 on DVD!  Woo hoo!  So I am borrowing it and am just a couple episodes in.

OH!  And my Young Living Essential Rewards order came in and that is always an exciting day!

On Saturday, we had a couple friends over and grilled burgers.  We were supposed to chill outside and play tailgate games but due to the rain, we just hung out inside.  It was still fun.  Then we headed to the Texas Rangers Exhibition Game at the Alamodome.  It's the one Rangers game in San Antonio since there is no professional baseball team here.  It's going to be really weird not going to a ton of Rangers games this year.  We usually have season tickets.  We are really missing the Ballpark in Arlington!

Ok, I'm so embarrassed to share this with you, but whatever, it's pretty funny.

I had the biggest baking fail ever on Saturday.  I was using Meg's recipe for Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies but without the basically chocolate chip cookies.  I realized that I didn't have normal flour, just gluten free flour that I bought back when we did our cleanse.

So I think I used too little flour since I left out the oatmeal.  I also used coconut palm sugar in place of regular white sugar.  Other than that, I did everything right!

And this is what happened....

Hahaha!  It looks like one big flat cookie!  They wouldn't harden and you certainly couldn't pick them up.  Oddly enough, they actually tasted pretty good if you ate it with a spoon.

This is Kevin totally expecting them to be terrible...

Stinker!  We got a good laugh out of it!

Sunday we had a meeting, church and our lifegroup!  Sundays are my favorite!

What did you do this weekend?

Treats for my fur babies!

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope you had a great weekend!

Hiking was fun on Saturday.  I can't wait to check out more of the trails in that park this spring/summer!  I love living by hiking trails now!

My pups provide me with so much joy and I can't imagine my life without them.  If you haven't read my Meet Kelli section, I'll introduce you to them now!

I've had Luci since I was in graduate school.  She was my little companion since I was home all day and had classes at night.  I got her from a rescue shelter when she was 9 months old and now she's 9 years old!  Crazy!  We think she's a Schipperke mix.  She's my baby.

Kevin got Riley from a Golden Retriever rescue 4 years ago.  We think she's about 6 years old now.  She's such a sweet, loyal dog.  She would like to think she's a lap dog though she's 65 pounds.  We just love her to death.

When approached me about partnering with them, I was thrilled!  Each month, I'll get new treats/chew toys for Luci and Riley and share about them here on the blog.  It's like my puppies have their own subscription service like I have Ipsy! Ha!

In February, the focus was Pet Dental Health.  I picked two products - a healthy treat and a chew toy.

Nylabone DuraChew Dino Dog Toy // Riley is a big dog and man, she can chew through anything!  I was curious to see how she handled the Nylabone and I can't believe I'm typing this, but she hasn't eaten through the whole thing yet!  In fact, just his head is damaged.  This is a good chew toy for a big dog!

Luci and Riley just keep swapping them.  It's hilarious!

Somehow Luci got both!

Kevin had to pretend he was eating it at first to get her to eat it but now she won't put it down.  Ha!

And Luci's take on the little dinosaur chew toy...

Blue Buffalo Dental Treats // Our dogs LOVE these!  They gobble them up so quickly!  I'm not even sure what they're supposed to taste like.  They promote good joint health and guard against cardiovascular disease.  They have all kinds of veggies in them!

In March, I picked the Canidae Grain-free PURE Heaven Biscuits with Salmon and Sweet Potato.  I have to say - they smell a bit fishy but the pups love them.  They're excited about treat-time now!

I took a video but Luci just ran away with it so I couldn't see her eating it in the light.

They also sent us fun ball toys for our doggies!  Too bad ours won't fetch :(  They're still going to play with them at some point!

I'm loving!  I'm so grateful for the opportunity to work with them!  They provide me with free product, but all opinions are my own.

Friday Love!

Hey friends!  It's Friday!!!!  Or as I keep seeing around blogland...FriYAY!!!

Thankfully, we just have a couple things planned this weekend - do our taxes tonight and then on Saturday, hike with friends and attend a one-year-old birthday party.

A few weeks ago, Joey was talking about listening to a book on tape which I thought would be a great idea for that roadtrip I took to go get my car out of the shop in Waco.  I downloaded the Audible app on my phone and purchased "Leaving Time" by Jodi Picoult.

I really really enjoyed it!  The story is great and it was so fun to listen to it every time I was in the car or had any downtime - I wanted to know what would happen next.  It's very touching as well as suspenseful.  I thought the whole psychic bit was hokey but it still made for a great story.

Have any of you read it too?

I want to ask for your prayers.  Kevin's aunt is in the hospital and has been since Friday when she was found unconscious.  She's still in a coma and we're not sure what is happening.  Please pray that she'll wake up soon!

I made this Fajita Chicken Bake recently and it was delicious!  I know the cheese isn't super healthy, but other than that, it totally is healthy and really easy to make.

We're hiking at a local state park tomorrow morning and I'm pumped!  This is one of the reasons that I was excited to move to the Texas Hill Country.  I'm getting some use out of my hiking boots!

Speaking of athletic shoes, I'm in desperate need of some new running shoes.  What brand do you recommend?  I'm hoping to get some this weekend!  Maybe then I'll run more...ha!

Have a fabulous weekend, friends!! XOXO

10 Benefits of Almond Oil for Skin

Happy Wednesday, friends!

If you've been around my blog for a while, you know that I love natural alternatives for beauty products.  I use coconut oil as makeup remover, lotion, moisturizer, in cooking and with my essential oils.  I'm learning about other oils as well such as almond oil, grapeseed oil and avocado oil and their health benefits.

Today, Rida from Beautiful You, is guest posting to talk about the benefits that almond oil can provide for your skin.

1 // Make-up Remover

Almond oil is very light. Even though it’s an oil, there’s nothing oily about it. It absorbs into your skin very quickly and if you wipe it off, it wipes off. It does a very good job at removing eye makeup. Mascara and eye liner come off pretty well too. And the best thing about it is that it doesn’t clog your skin.

2 // Scrub

Almond oil can be used to make facial scrub because it can act as a sugar and salt carrier. So it can be used as the carrier oil. Basically, sugar or salt in a scrub work as a remover of dirt and dry skin from the face. Afterwards a moisturizer is necessary for the scrubbed skin and almond oil works as that moisturizer. Almond scrub is very easy and convenient to make because it consist of ingredients which are easily available in your kitchen cabinet.

3 // Skin cell Renewal

Almond oil renews skin cells and invigorates body. It makes your skin look a lot fresher, younger and revived. This is a natural way to bring life back to your skin.

4 // Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Almond oil consists of zinc which helps in healing wounds. People have also claimed that almond oil gives a soothing effect on their allergic skin. Minor wounds are also healed using almond oil. But it might not be good for some people’s skin, so before using it to treat any wounds do a small patch test just to be sure that it suits you.

5 // Skin Whitening

There are a tons of skin whitening products in the market but they consist of chemicals which some people have a problem with. Almond oil improves complexion and dark spots are also reduced with time.

6 // Dark Circles

If you’ve dark under eye circles then apply a little bit of almond oil on that area before you go to sleep and you let it work while you sleep. After a couple of weeks you’ll notice that the area around your eyes will look a lot fresher and awake.
7 // Pain Relief

Almond oil can be used for pain relief too. If you warm up some almond oil and massage the area that hurts then you’ll notice that the discomfort goes away.

8 // Nails

The potassium and the zinc in almond oil helps the nails become stronger and healthier. You can rub a few drops of almond oil on your nails and cuticles after washing your hands and you’ll see the difference.

9 // Hand or Foot Cream

Almond oil is very light and comparatively less greasy. It absorbs into your skin instantly. That’s why it’s an excellent substitute for hand and foot creams.

10 // Reduces Signs of Aging

Almond oil massages increase blood circulation and tightens wrinkly and aging skin.
It is also known for renewal of skin cells and invigoration of body which prevent signs of aging.

Weekending // My Sister's Wedding

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope that you had a great weekend!

My sister's wedding this weekend was beautiful!  I'm so happy for her and her new husband.  We had a blast!

Most of my iPhone photos didn't turn out very well so I'll have to wait on the professional photos to come out.  I'll share a few from my phone though!

I took Friday off, so my sister and I got massages in the morning.  It was amazing!  Then we met our mom and a friend for lunch before going to get manicures and pedicures where they gave us a free bottle of champagne.  Winning!

Here's a quick one I snapped on our way to the church...

And then we escorted the bride and groom to the reception after the ceremony....

Sorry I don't have better photos!  But you get the was a fun weekend!  I'm so happy for my sister!

How was your weekend??

February Faves! Link Up!

Hey friends!

The first Wednesday of each month, Mia and I come together to host this awesome link-up so that we can hear about your favorites from the previous month.  There aren't any rules!  If you'd like to grab our button and link back up to us, we'd greatly appreciate it!

A Deeper Joy

February was a fun month!  I've got some random faves for you today!

The Superbowl was at the beginning of February and I made some delicious jalapeno poppers for the party we attended.  Yum!

On a much healthier note, this was my favorite smoothie that I made last month...

Frozen peaches
One whole ripe banana
Handful of fresh spinach
One scoop of Naturade Soy Protein
One tablespoon chia seeds
Agave Nectar
Almond Milk

My hubby totally spoiled me for Valentine's Day (after we decided not to get each other gifts...grr...I honestly didn't get him anything).  He got me this Monogram Scroll "B" Initial Necklace in gold.  I absolutely love it!

I found the cutest little bakery/cafe ever, called Bird Bakery, last week!  Actually my friend invited me to meet her for lunch there and I fell in love.  My photos are only with my iPhone but y'all, this was the most Pinterest-y bakery I've EVER seen.  So cute.  And they have really good food/desserts!

I really look forward to reading about your February faves!  The link-up will stay live all throughout the month of March so if you haven't posted today, that's okay!  Do it anytime in the next month!

Love you, friends!!
