Christmas in July Giveaway!

Hey friends!  My life has been non-stop lately...go, go, go!  I appreciate all of you praying for me and Kevin and all of the encouragement we've received.  It really keeps me going!

We are in full-blown summer and man, we feel it!  It's been over a 100 degrees here in Texas.  I seriously even had car problems on Sunday because it couldn't handle the heat.  That's bad!

But guess what?!  That means that Christmas is less than 5 months away!  Doesn't cozying up to a fire with a blanket around you and hot chocolate in hand sound so great right now?!  I'll just continue to dream about it!  I've teamed up with Tiffany from A Touch of Grace and we are giving away some great items to help ease you into the upcoming back to school and holiday seasons.

- Leopard scarf: You all know that leopard is a great neutral that goes with so many things. Love this lightweight scarf for cool summer evenings or fall days.

- Stress relief lotion: We could all use a little less stress in our life.  This lotion is calming and smells divine!

- Eucalyptus mint candle: Another great stress reliever to calm the senses.

- Homemade lip balm: This lip balm is amazing.  It can even be used on your cuticles to keep them from cracking.  Love it!

- The Good Life: Dr. Oz's new magazine has some great health and wellness articles, along with healthy recipes and tips.

- $25 Target gift card: Who doesn't like Target?

You can enter the giveaway in the Rafflecopter box below.  This is open to US residents only (sorry international friends).  You have until midnight on Thursday to enter.  The winner will be announced on Friday!

Oh hey, Friday! It's been a better week!

Hey friends!  I so appreciate all of your prayers for me, Kevin and our friends lately.  They are really being answered!  And thank you for the sweet emails...you have truly lifted me up and encouraged me.

Kevin is feeling a lot better!  He still doesn't have full range of motion with his shoulder but it's definitely improved since last week.  He heard a loud pop in it the other night and it's been so much better ever since.  It apparently wasn't all the way back into place.  So yeah, I have to learn how to pop a shoulder back into place in case that ever happens again....ugh!  There's a reason I'm an accountant, not a nurse!

I should have sent this to Kevin.  So he wasn't wrestling a bear...softball is manly, right?!

Today is a huge day!  I mean, really HUGE for us!  Our house officially went on the market yesterday so showings begin today!!!  Please please pray that God will bring along the right buyers.  We're anxious about it but trying to trust the Lord.

Here's a little glimpse of some of the rooms...

I've been wanting to do a post on Kevin's man cave/Rangers Room/office.  It's amazing!  There was more Rangers stuff up, but the stagers made us take it down.

In not so important news, I am in LOVE with the Essie Turquoise and Caicos!  It's been on my toenails all week.

So I learned about this awesome vegan protein from Sunwarrior on Kristal's blog during mine and Mia's Monthly Faves link-up.  I ordered some on Amazon and LOVE it!  Vegan protein powders always taste a bit weird but they don't have crazy chemicals in them and don't upset my stomach.

And don't forget...our next Monthly Faves link-up will be on Wednesday, August 6!  It's the first Wednesday of every month.  Start working on your posts now!

Come back on Tuesday for a fun giveaway from me and my blog bestie, Tiffany from A Touch of Grace!  You won't want to miss it!

Have a great weekend, friends!!! XOXOXO

July Ipsy Glam Bag

I was pumped to get my second Ipsy Glam Bag in July!  I got it last week so I've had a chance to use everything.  This month's theme: Sensationally Sunkissed!

First off, isn't that a cute pink bag?!

I'm excited about this one!  The company claims to not use any harmful chemicals including parabens and fragrance (Caroline, Allison and Jen! wink wink).  I've always used Neutrogena's daily moisturizer and it feels really similar.

bareMinerals READY eyeshadow 2.0

I don't normally venture away from brownish earth tones because I'm boring like that and love the natural look.  So this INSPIRATION combo was new for me!  These are Muse and Passion.  I tried it the other day though and loved it!  They blended well!

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Unique Pink
I love how this stuff feels on my lips!  I'm not crazy about the color but it's not too bold...really just shiny.  Use that link and get 25% off of your next Pixi order!

derma e BB Creme in Light Tint
I was pleasantly surprised with this BB Creme.  It feels lighter than my Aveeno BB Cream and provides good coverage.  AND it has SPF 25 in it!  Take that sleezy skin cancer!

Pop Beauty Sunkissed Bronzer in Secret Sunshine
This bronzer is a tad too dark for me but I put it on lightly.  I actually kind of like it better than my Rimmel Bronzer.  I might have to start buying this one!

My July bag was totally worth my $10!!!  I will use all 5 of these items OFTEN!  I highly recommend signing up for an Ipsy Glam Bag - I mean, it's only $10 and doesn't require a commitment at al.  Totally worth it!  I love trying new beauty products!  Use my link HERE and I'll get points and be oh so grateful!

Check out my June Ipsy Glam Bag HERE.

Have a lovely Wednesday, friends!

Oh hey, Friday! It's been a tough one!

Hey folks!  Let's be real here...this has been a TOUGH week!  So much so that I wasn't going to post today, because I don't have wonderful things to say about this week.  BUT, you know what?  I could use your prayers!  I'll just do this chronologically...

Last weekend, a sweet little 13-year-old angel went to be with the Lord.  Our dear friends who had a 13-year-old daughter and a little baby boy, lost their little girl.  It breaks my heart that any parent would have to lose their child.  My heart is completely broken for that family right now.  I just don't understand why the Lord lets certain things happen but I DO know that He will make something good come out of it.  Please keep Jason and Janie in your prayers!  Pray for comfort and peace!

My best friend's grandmother passed away this week as well.  She was a sweet lady - the epitome of a southern woman...especially the accent!  I grew up knowing her and am sad, but happy that she's in Heaven.  Pray for my best friend, Tracy....she took care of her in the last few years so it's hard!

Then I went to my hometown (about 5-6 hours away) to drop off our dogs with my parents.  It was wonderful to see my mom, stepdad, dad, sister and friends!  I took a couple days off of work and worked from home the other day.

I agreed to do my personal trainer friend's boot camp and HOLY MOLEY...I am STILL sore today!  It wouldn't be so bad if I did that every day but I don't!  My core and hamstrings are more sore than they've ever been.  It was a beautiful day though quite hot.  We met at the city park...

Beautiful day at my parents' ranch...

Clouds started rolling in this very day...

And it started pouring rain.

Peaches grow well in the Texas hill country.  I stopped and bought some from a local farm.

And my dad's girlfriend just got the cutest Corgi in the world...his name is Turbo...

I was so sad to leave our pups, but we're putting our house on the market next week!  They can't be there while we show it so they get a vacation at the 'rents ranch.

Ok...so on Tuesday evening, I was at my dad's girlfriend's house when I received a phone call from a church friend that we play softball with.  I looked at the time...it was 7:15...the softball game was from 6:30 to 7:30.  My heart stopped because I knew it had to be about my hubby.

Yep, they were in the ER.

Apparently he dove for a ball and his shoulder popped out of socket and was hanging 4 inches below where it should be.  Ouch.  They put him on morphine and popped it back into place.  We're not sure if he tore his labrum again...it was torn in the past from pitching and he had surgery on it in 2012.  I felt so helpless being that far away from him.

So he's still in a ton of pain.  Please please pray for him and his healing!

We're super stressed, trying to get the house ready to sell and now my little muscles are all we have for a while.  A friend is coming to help me this weekend which I so appreciate.  We're anxious about what to do about selling, moving, etc.  Pray our home sells!!!  Pray that I'll trust the Lord with it all!

Have a great weekend, y'all!!!

Homemade Deodorant

So I've been on a journey, my friends!  It's a journey I'll be on all my life.  It started with this - I believe that so many of our health problems stem from unhealthy diets, the chemicals/pesticides used in our foods (even when it says organic) and beauty/health products, and medicines.

If I could, I'd live on a farm, raise my own animals and grow my own produce.  I really believe that it's the only way to live clean, but it's unfortunately, not realistic.  So I'm doing what I can to minimize the chemicals that enter my body.

One step that I am taking is making a lot of my own beauty/health products.  I've dabbled in making my own lip balm, makeup removing cleanser, hand soap, body wash and deodorant.

Using THIS recipe, I made my own deodorant about a month ago and I totally didn't expect it to work.  I thought, "I'm going to be smelly and sweaty."  I had tried Toms brand and it did NOT work.

And I'm happy to say HOLY COW!  This stuff really works for me!

1) It keeps me from sweating.

2) It keeps me from getting smelly.

3) It doesn't get on my clothes.

I have used Dove or Secret for years and I can honestly say that my homemade deodorant works better than either one of those for me.  Everyone's body is different so different recipes may react differently to your body.  I'm just lucky that the first one I tried worked!

How to make your own natural deodorant:

First, I cleaned out an old Dove deodorant container thoroughly and let it dry.  If you don't have one to use, you can order them on Amazon.

Then I gathered these ingredients:

1/4 cup organic virgin coconut oil (I order mine HERE)
3/4 tablespoon beeswax pellets (I order mine HERE)
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup cornstarch (or arrowroot powder if you have sensitive skin)
5 drops each of lavender, lemon and frankincense Young Living Essential Oils (I can help you get these if you don't have any...just email me - adeeperjoyblog@gmail.com)

Melt the coconut oil and beeswax together completely in a saucepan on low heat.  You can also put them in a glass container and set it in a pan of boiling water.

Remove from the heat, once melted, and add baking soda and cornstarch/arrowroot.  Mix everything together until smooth.  It'll look like a creamy white liquid.

Add in the essential oils.  I truly believe that these are what make the deodorant work so well.

Mix everything together with a spoon and then pour into empty deodorant container.  Let it solidify and it's ready to use!!

NOTE: Depending on the temperature where you store it, you may have to apply it using your fingers.  If you want to rub it on, store it in the fridge.

Let me know if you make it and what you think of it!  I love hearing feedback!

More natural recipes to come!

Weekend Fun + Anthropologie Giveaway

Happy Monday, friends!!!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend!  Mine was great!  Today I'm linking up with Biana!

Friday night was Baylor night at the Texas Rangers baseball game.  I went to Baylor University so of course we got tickets!  We got a free Rangers hat with Baylor colors - green and gold!  Sic 'em!

that's a bear claw for those of you who aren't familiar with Baylor :)

There were fireworks after the game and we watched them from the parking lot.  It was really really cool to see them over the ballpark.  There was a full moon too!  We normally stay inside the ballpark for the show but this was even better!  It was honestly one of the best nights we've had together in a while.  I felt like a giddy little dating couple!

Saturday I had some much need girl time with some awesome girlfriends.

You are going to love this giveaway!  I seriously want to win it, but I'm hosting!

These awesome girls and I are giving away a gorgeous Anthropologie apron and two oven mitts. Talk about kitchen sophistication. Love them!

Friday Randomness!

Happy Friday, my friends!  I have some random things to share with you from my week!  I always say I'm going to have a theme and it ends up being totally random!

A little recap from my July 4th weekend - the hubs and I drove to Oklahoma with our doggies to see his grandpa.  We did a little shopping at some antique stores and came home with some fun stuff.  I need to take photos so I can show you.  I loved that grilling apron...he's totally my Mr. Right!

We watched "Oklahoma's biggest fireworks show" in Vinita on Grand Lake, had a picnic on the lake the next day and enjoyed ice cream from Braum's.  Grandpa Bill and his girlfriend are fun to be with!

And we only packed red, white and blue clothes!  Haha!  That's easy with a hubby obsessed with the Texas Rangers!

So I finally got a new phone!  Woo hoo!  I've been sporting the iPhone 4s for quite some time and finally got the 5s.  I might be a little obsessed with my new case.

that's navy blue (looks a little black in this photo), gold, cream, and coral

Before we left for our Oklahoma trip, I needed to do something with all of my produce that would go bad while we were gone.  I surprised myself and made an awesome, healthy soup that we could freeze and enjoy later!

2 chicken breasts (cooked)
1 large yellow squash
1 zucchini
1 large tomato
1-2 large carrots
1 medium white onion
2 celery stalks
1 garlic clove
Chicken broth
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)

I sauteed the chopped zucchini, squash, onion and garlic in the EVOO and then threw all of the ingredients in a large pot and let them simmer for about 45 mins.  Honestly, I just used the rest of my chicken broth (maybe 2 cups) and filled the rest with water.  I eyeballed it on the spices.

It was such an easy way to use random, healthy ingredients.  I recommend it when you feel like being creative!

Have a wonderful weekend, lovelies!!! XOXOXO

DIY Storage Boxes

Remember THIS post about needing to decorate our back living area?  Well, I've been working on it!

My first goal was to fill these cubes with storage boxes and I didn't want to spend a ton of money, but I also wanted it to look cute.  So we bought wicker storage boxes from Lowe's and I made cute fabric covered boxes for the top row!

Using Jen's tutorial at IHeart Organizing, I created my own custom covered storage boxes that I LOVE!  I might have spent about 2 hours staring at fabric at Joann Fabric Store and about went crazy, but I finally decided on this pretty deep blue polka dot pattern and a dark orange pattern.

Here is what I used:

4 shoeboxes
About 1.5 yards of each fabric
Spray adhesive
Yard stick
Duct Tape

First, I cut the lids off of my old shoeboxes and taped down any parts of the box that stuck out.

by the last box, I decided to put duct tape over the little half circle cut-outs as well

Then I measured the amount of fabric that I would need for the inside of the box.

I cut a rectangle piece for the bottom, making it just a tad larger so it would come up slightly on the sides.  Then I cut two long pieces to cover the sides of the inside.  I carefully positioned the fabric exactly where I wanted it and rolled the fabric on after spraying the adhesive all over the surface.

once the adhesive dried, it didn't look white and chalky like that

Next, I did the same thing with the outside pieces.  I cut pieces for each end and then one large piece that would cover the other sides as well as the bottom.

Make sure to measure out a little extra to come over the tops into the box.

Then it was done!  I repeated those steps 3 more times for the other boxes and alternated fabrics.

A few tips:

Outdoor fabric probably works better than normal fabric.  I'd imagine it lays flatter and the edges probably fray less.  Jen used outdoor fabric on her bins.

Keep a damp paper towel or towel nearby because the adhesive gets all over your hands.

Use your hands to roll out bubbles that form in the fabric.

I just love how they look in the cubes and it cost me a fraction of what it would have cost to buy fabric bins from a store.  I hope you enjoyed the tutorial!

Be Still...

I have been overwhelmed with God's love lately in a new way.

I have found myself anxious, nervous, hopeful, excited, exhausted and joyful all at the same time.  Not knowing what my future holds can be so scary, but I'm choosing to rest in Him.  He has ALWAYS come through for me in the past, so I rest in that assurance - He wants the best for me, according to His will. He doesn't expect me to "perform", just trust Him.

Here is one of my favorite things about God - He will always meet you WHERE YOU ARE.  You don't have to be at a super high spiritual point, walking with Him consistently and reading your Bible every day for Him to be with you (though those things are certainly beneficial!).  He wants to walk alongside of you regardless of your situation...exactly where you are!

I find SO much hope in this verse...

How can you BE STILL today and let Him fight for you?

What I Accomplished In My 20's

So I've been thinking...I've been out of my 20's for a year and a half now.

Sometimes I have a heart to heart with God about why He's chosen this timing for me and my life and He reminds me that He's got a plan.  He is in control and there is so much good that does and is going to come out of my life story.

I wasn't always okay with this plan.  To be honest, I always thought I'd be married by 25 and start having kids by 28 which would put me with a 3 year-old right now (like a lot of my friends).  But here I am, I got married at 30 and am 31 with no children yet.  I feel so blessed to be married to my best friend and I'm so glad that God made me wait for him.  I know he has a plan for our future children too.

I wanted to go back and remind myself of the awesome things that I got to do in my 20's.  This helps me to appreciate what the Lord has done in my life so that I don't get upset about not having children yet.  He is so faithful and gives us the desires of our heart if we are pursuing His will.  I pray that when my ungrateful attitude appears, He would remind me of His amazing provision.  HE is enough.

Let's pretend like I'm turning 30 right now and that I'm looking back on my 20's.  Here are some fun things that I got to do back ye olden days...

Lens was foggy - but otherwise, I probably wouldn't have posted a photo of me in my swimsuit!

{SIXTEEN}  Apply to be on the Amazing Race - obviously I wasn't selected but Haley and I had fun making our application video in Colorado on a random weekend
